Overview
Data Synergy ATATool can be used to display and modify ATA disk information from a Microsoft Windows environment.
We believe this is a unique capability for a freely available tool. The principal use of ATATool is to check/modify the
ATA ‘Host Protected Area (HPA)’ and ‘Device Configuration Overlay (DCO)’ features. It can also be used to simulate ‘bad’
sectors by corrupting disk ECC data.
Current features include:
- List attached ATA devices (both legacy PATA and SATA)
- Display device information including model/serial number, HPA and DCO status
- Modify and reset HPA device status (SETHPA command)
- Modify and reset DCO device status (SETDCO command)
- Corrupt and fix disk ECC data (BADECC command)
- Force Windows device re-detect following HPA status change
- Runs inside a Windows environment (including Windows PE)
ATATool has the following requirements:
- Windows XP SP2 or later (32-bit or 64-bit) including Windows PE
- Administrator rights (elevated on Windows Vista and later)
Syntax summary
ATATool is command-line tool. It is supplied as a single EXE file and requires no external dependencies to function.
The command-line syntax is:
ATATOOL action [options] [device]
Where action may be:
/LIST — List all detected ATA devices (default)
/INFO — Display summary ATA information for device
/DETAIL — Display detailed ATA information for device
/SETHPA:sectors[MB][GB][TB] — Set maximum number of sectors or capacity (HPA)
/RESETHPA — Restore default device maximum capacity (HPA)
/SETDCO:sectors[MB][GB][TB] — Set maximum number of sectors or capacity (DCO)
/RESTOREDCO — Restore default device maximum capacity (DCO)
/FREEZELOCKDCO — Lock DCO until next hardware reset / power-off (DCO)
/ADVANCED — Display further advanced syntax
Valid options:
/NOREDETECT — Disable device re-detection for /SETHPA and /RESETHPA
This option should be used with extreme caution as
system may be unstable after reducing drive size
/NONVOLATILEHPA — /SETHPA and /RESETHPA changes are permanent
Default is for changes to be discarded on power-off
Numeric values may be decimal or hexadecimal. Prefix hexadecimal with ‘0x’

ATATool is freeware software that is used to display and modify ATA disk information from a Microsoft Windows environment.[1] The software is typically used to manage host protected area (HPA) and device configuration overlay (DCO) features and is broadly similar to the hdparm for Linux. The software can also be used to generate and sometimes repair bad sectors. Recent versions include support for DCO restore and freeze operations, HPA security (password) operations and simulated bad sectors.[2] ATATool is no longer available for personal download and can only be used for «professional users» like for security researchers.[3]
ATATool must be run with administrator privileges. On Windows Vista and later it requires an elevated-privileges command prompt (see User Account Control). The target drive must be connected to a physical disk controller. The software will not work when using a hard drive through an external connection like USB or any external hard drive.

HDD Capacity Restore extracts the factory settings from your hard drive and uses that data to restore your hard drive to its original factory capacity, completely automatically at the push of a button.

Over time, a computer running Windows will slowly lose some of its hard drive storage capacity due to glitches in Windows file management operations. In other cases, software programs may interfere or corrupt parts of your computer’s device configuration overlay (DCO), disable the LBA48 address system or create host-protected areas (HPAs) on your drive. When these programs crash or are removed, some of these areas are never recovered and are unusable by your system.
With HDD Capacity Restore, you can recover all of this missing storage area and return your usable hard drive capacity to what it was when it rolled off the factory floor. HDD Capacity Restore automatically detects connected drives, determines their size, serial numbers, security state, and original factory capacity. It then uses that information to automatically restore the drive to that factory state.
The user interface is intuitive and simple: displaying the hard drive’s model and serial number, current capacity, original factory capacity, and the difference between the two (the “lost” disk space). A simple push of the “Restore Capacity” button will recover that lost disk space automatically by restoring the original LBA48, HPA, and DCO configurations. On completion, you are instructed to simply restart your computer.
HDD Capacity Restore alters your systems HDD firmware by temporarily removing it from the device management system. As such, the use of HDD Capacity Restore is not recommended for novice or casual computer users. HDD Capacity Restore may not always be able to restore a drive to factory capacity if the motherboard is blocking HPA and DCO commands.

This program is good for anyone looking to restore the factory capacity of any of your hard drives on your computer. Some companies sell 80GB hard drives but are limited to only half of that at 40GB. This program gives you the option to restore this allowing you to access the entire 80GB hard drive capacity or per se the entire hard drive of whichever your computer currently uses. After taking a look at HDD Capacity Restore for Windows, i can see that this is a product which can be recommended to all as it a free tool which can be downloaded. This software has the important factor of being able to restore full factory capacity on any hard drive. This makes it very appealing. This was a great product! I’m so happy I had one, my whole computer crashed due to a virus and I would have lost all of my pictures and documents if I didn’t have the HDD Capacity Restore for Windows. It never is bad to have it because you never know when and if something may go wrong and its always good to plan for the unexpected. Better safe then sorry.

I was recommended HDD Capacity Restore for Windows by a friend when I was curious how to completely factory reset my hard drive without going to extreme lengths. I wouldn’t say it was the easiest software to use.. I definitely had to use my PC knowledge to navigate it, but it ultimately got the job done. The only downside, outside of it being a little bit more difficult to use, is that it lost some megabytes in the process, but that’s no big deal in the grand scheme of things.

У меня стояло 2 ОС 1 была на SSD Samsung 850 Evo 500GB, а вторая на HDD WD blue на 1TB, вчера нужно было зайти в систему которая стояла на HDD, я зашёл прошло минут 6 и выдало экран смерти после чего перекинуто на автоматическое восстановление windows. Пробовал восстановление системы и удаление обнов, и вход в безопасный режим, ничего не помогло. Потом я попробовал загрузиться с SSD, но все почему то выдавалось восстановление, тогда я поставил чистую ОС на совершенно другой диск, после чего скопировал некоторые данные и переустановил систему и на SSD. После я заметил что жёсткий диск не распознаётся системой(она не видит сколько на диске места и не даёт его открыть, также при просмотре диска через диспетчер устройств было отображёно что он в формате RAW). При просмотре жёсткого диска была ошибка о том что не возможно на него зайти, я пытался даже отформатировать его но все равно была ошибка. После я думал что смогу установить на него windows и попробовал удалить все томы и отформатировать его, но попытки отформатировать разделы на 300 и 600 гб опять выдали ошибку, получилось только удалить какой-то маленький том, а после перезагрузки из всего жёсткого диска видно только раздел на 30 мб, при этом в управлении дисков тоже самое. Возможно ли вернуть объём диску без потери данных или диску пришёл конец? Изображения

Возможно ли вернуть объём диску без потери данных или диску пришёл конец? Вся тема была посвящена тому что на жёстком диске осталось только 30 мб и был задан вопрос о том можно ли восстановить объём. Конечно она не меняет формат RAW.
