Want to install Windows 10 on an old netbook (or a cheap Windows tablet) with a 1024 x 600 pixel display? No problem.
While you can run Windows 8.1 on a device with a low-resolution display, you’ll get an error message if you try opening the Windows Store to install any Metro/Modern apps.
That was also true with the first technical preview of Windows 10. But it looks like one of the changes included in the second preview (build 9860) is support for 1024 x 600 pixel screens.
After reading about the change this weekend, I decided to install the Windows 10 technical preview on my Asus Eee PC 1000H.
This is a netbook that was released in 2008. It has a 1.6 GHz Intel Atom N270 single-core processor, 1GB of RAM, and an 80GB hard drive. The little laptop has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display and originally shipped with Windows XP.
Sure enough, when I installed the first Windows 10 preview and tried opening the Windows Store or other Modern apps such as the Weather and News apps I got an error message telling me I needed a screen resolution of 1024 x 768 or higher to use these apps.
So I entered the PC Settings, checked for a new preview build, downloaded and installed it and after my computer rebooted I was able to open Windows Store apps.
Windows 10 doesn’t feel particularly fast on this aging netbook… but neither does any other operating system. After all, it does have a relatively slow processor, 1GB of DDR2 667MHz memory, and a 5400 RPM hard drive.
Still, it’s nice to know Microsoft is bringing improved support for older hardware… and ensuring that newer devices like the Toshiba Encore Mini PC don’t need to use software to emulate higher-resolution displays just to run Windows apps.
Hopefully this doesn’t mean we’ll see a surge of new devices like the Encore Mini with low-resolution displays.

I have bought an external display from waveshare of 7″ with resolution of 1024×600 and my laptop is hp probook 6470b with i5 3320M without HDMI port.I bought usb to hdmi cable but its resolution is 1024×768 and not 1024×600.I tried CRU but it didn’t workedofcourse did tried old fashioined way of ADVANCED DISPLAY SETTING, it didn’t worked too.Is there any other way so that my external display resolution will be of 1024x600can say a custom set resolution. I understand that you are facing issues with the display scaling on your external displays. We will certainly look into this for you.
As you are using Vizio TV, you may have to try using custom resolution settings if the in-built settings do not provide the required settings.
For better clarity, please let us know:
- What is the version of Windows 10 that is currently installed on your computer? You can click on Search and type
winver. - Are you aware of any recent changes to the system, such as updates, after which you are facing this issue?
- What is the make and model of your computer?
Meanwhile, I would suggest you to check the steps mentioned in the Workaround section in

I just had a 8500 GT installed, and i have a 19″ wide screen LCD with a 1440×900 optimal resolution. Before with my Intigrated 6100 graphics i had the option of setting the Resolution to my monitors Native Resolution. But after this install. the display settings does not list
1440 x 900. Everything but that.. So now, either i am forced to veiw at a low Resolution and go blind by the Blur or at a higher Resolution but with everything Skewed or streched out or out of frequancey range . am i now going to need to buy a new monitor that supports a higher Resolution. I have looked in both the Nvidia controls and the Windows display settings for a remedy but my resolution is not listed

I have called Nvidia and was told that my native display resolution is an oddball resolution and not very common ,and that the Graphics card does not support this resolution 1440 x 900. I looked at the release notes for the driver, and infact seen that my resolution is not listed in the supported resolutions for the 8500. But i beg to differ in the comment that it is a oddball resolution. if you look at all the new LCD 19″ wide screen resolutions that are being sold on the market today have the resolution 1440x 900 as the native resolution . could you please include this resolution in the next driver release. or tell me how i can fix this issue. so i dont have to spend $300-$350 for a new monitor.

Changing the Display Resolution from Settings.
Step 1: Right Click on an empty space on the desktop and click on
Display Settings.Step 2: In the

К счастью, у нас есть отличный инструмент для этого. Утилита под названием Custom Resolution Utility позволяет выбрать монитор (даже если у вас несколько) и изменить его разрешение на такое, какое вы хотите. Серьезно, абсолютно любое!
Основной список на экране утилиты предлагает стандартные разрешения, но, если вы нажмете на кнопку «Добавить» (Add) и прокрутите вниз до «Другое разрешение» (Other resolution), вы сможете самостоятельно установить разрешение X, Y и частоту обновления.
После этого запустите файл restart.exe, который расположен в папке с утилитой, чтобы перезагрузить драйвера видеокарты.
Обратите внимание, вам следует придерживаться разрешений 4:3, 5:4, 16:9 или 16:10 для достижения наилучших результатов. В против случае у вас может возникнуть ошибки или глюки. Запустите файл reset—all.exe, чтобы вернуть первоначальные настройки.
